Interior designer in Lyon – Complete renovation of a contemporary duplex

This renovation project of a basement apartment in Lyon, carried out by an interior architect on a full project management mission, illustrates a comprehensive approach to interior architecture, integrating transformation of volumes, optimization of circulation and enhancement of light.

The objective of this complete renovation was to transform an atypical space into a coherent, bright and structured living space, adapting the organization to the contemporary uses of a family wishing to assert the character and identity of their new home.

Artificial light: a structuring element of the project

In this flexiblex project, the use of artificial light constitutes a central issue. The lighting devices have been designed to support uses while highlighting the architectural lines.

Renovation of a basement apartment in Lyon: rethinking the spaces and uses

This apartment in Lyon is laid out as a duplex, with the living area on the upper floor and the sleeping quarters in the basement. This unusual configuration required a complete redesign of the interior layout to improve the clarity of the spaces and everyday comfort.

The renovation involved removing as many partitions as possible on the upper level, redesigning access to the apartment, and rethinking the connection with the lower level. The aim was to create a wide perspective and allow the eye to flow freely through the volume, thus enhancing the feeling of spaciousness.

In the dining room, a large glass table adds a touch of elegance and lightness, contrasting with the warmer materials of the living room. This controlled contrast contributes to the overall balance of the project and the clarity of the spaces.

Organization of traffic flow and architectural design

From the entrance hall, a curved partition naturally guides the occupants towards the dining room and living room, structuring the flow of movement while adding a strong architectural dimension. This intervention creates a fluid transition between the different living spaces.

A graphic wall treatment inspired by natural bark affirms the identity of the place, while the railing of the staircase leading to the lower level is finely crafted to preserve the visual lightness and transparency of the volumes.

Interior ambiance: warmth, materials and comfort

In the living room, warm tones create a soft and inviting atmosphere. The fireplace and oak parquet flooring enhance this feeling of comfort, in keeping with a palette of natural and sustainable materials.

The use of textiles plays an essential role in the perception of space: large rugs, curtains and ecru seating contribute to creating an enveloping and calming atmosphere, characteristic of high-end interior architecture in Lyon.
